Check an overage invoice

Enter the terms from your order form and the numbers from the invoice. You get the amount those terms produce, the rules your contract doesn't state and what each one is worth, and a request you can send to the vendor asking for the calculation behind the invoice.

Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

TrueUpp makes software for the vendor side of this invoice, the finance teams who calculate it. This checker is free, and it works without TrueUpp.

Step 1

Your contract terms

From the order form and any amendment. Wherever the contract is silent, choose Not stated in my contract: those are the points the request asks the vendor to confirm.

Commitment
$
Leave blank to work it out from the commit and unit price.
$
Per unit or credit. Used as the overage rate if you enter no tiers.
Unused allowance and rollover
%
If the contract gives one, even without saying of what.
Overage
%
Of the included units, absorbed before overage.

Overage tiers

TierUp to (overage units)Rate per unitRemove

Up to six. Leave the last tier's limit blank so it covers everything above.

How usage is applied
Step 2

The invoice

Every field is optional. The more you enter, the more precise the request.

Invoice
For display only.
$
The overage or true-up line, without any fixed platform or commit fee.
Usage billed
The invoice shows usage by tier (optional)
From your own logs. Leave blank if you don't know.
Balance
Before any cap. Needed to compare rollover readings.
Rolled-over credits the vendor applied.
Plan change
Step 3

Results

Enter the included units, an overage rate and the usage billed to see what your terms produce.

Step 4

The invoice trace request

A request for information, not a complaint. Edit anything before you send it.

The link holds your inputs after the “#”. Anyone you send it to can see them.

Questions

What should I send with the request?

The invoice, the order form page that sets out the pricing, allowance and rollover terms, and any amendment that changed them. If you keep your own usage figures, attach the export. Send it to the billing contact on the invoice and copy your account manager.

Is this legal or accounting advice?

No. The checker does arithmetic on the terms you enter. It shows what those terms produce and where they're silent. What your contract means is for you, your advisers and the vendor to settle.

Why do contracts leave these rules out?

In our review of 64 usage-based pricing pages, 92% didn't say what happens to credits on a mid-cycle plan change, 72% didn't say what happens to unused included usage at period end, and 5 of the 6 offering rollover didn't say whether it's capped.

What if the vendor can't produce a trace?

Ask for the usage behind the invoice (daily or monthly totals, with the cutoff they used) and, in writing, the treatment they applied for each point you raised. Enter those here and recompute. Whatever you settle, ask for the rules to be written into the order form or an amendment, so the next invoice can be checked the same way.

Is anything I enter stored or sent anywhere?

No. The checker runs entirely in your browser. There is no form and nothing is saved. A copied link carries your inputs after a “#” in the address, which browsers don't send to the website, and our analytics strips it before anything is recorded. See the privacy policy.
